Most successful Etsy sellers don't work in isolation from the competition. They watch their strongest rivals closely and adapt the patterns that work to their own shop.
Why competitor analysis matters this much
The leading sellers in your category have already tested what works. Their title structure, word choices, price band and photo style amount to a ready-made piece of market research — and it costs you nothing.
Five things worth analysing
- Title structure: which keywords do they put first?
- Word choice: which phrases do they repeat across title and description?
- Pricing: where does their average price band sit?
- Photo style: mostly white background, or lifestyle scenes?
- Favourites vs. sales: are they pulling traffic without converting, or the reverse?
How to choose which competitors to watch
Two types are worth tracking: (1) shops selling the same product in a similar price band — take tactical lessons from these; (2) the best-selling shops in your category — take strategic inspiration from these. Blurring the two leads you to imitate a position you can't yet support.
How to do the analysis by hand
Manual analysis means opening listings on Etsy one by one, and it takes time. Rather than trying to review everything, pick a few shops and look only at the five areas above.
Boostolog does not offer competitor shop analysis; it only analyses the listings in your own Etsy shop. The review described in this post is something you do yourself, on Etsy.
Turning your notes into strategy
- List the phrases in your competitors' titles that you don't use
- Use their price band as a reference and choose your position deliberately
- Work out the pattern behind their most-favourited titles and adapt it to your product
- Note the difference in photo style — white background, or lifestyle?
💡 Tip: After applying your notes to your own listing, you can use Boostolog to score your own title, tags and description, then review and approve its suggestions.
